THE ANNIVERSARY TRIVIA GAME (QUICK OVERVIEW)

A thoughtful game, 'anniversary trivia' encourages party goers to write down questions for the happy couple to ask each other on their first anniversary. Examples include 'describe your perfect date', 'what strange things do you do as a couple?', and 'what's a cute or funny habit of your partner that you love?'. Each question is placed in a box or booklet, and then gifted to the couple on their wedding day. On their first anniversary, the bride and her partner can make their way through these heartful (and hilarious!) questions relating to their journey; resulting in beautiful memories, fun stories and sweet moments. Want to mix things up a little? Video guests' asking the questions (and sharing anniversary well-wishes) instead!

Playing the Anniversary Quiz Game

YOU WILL NEED:
Paper (or pre-designed playing cards), pens, and somewhere to store the questions once they've been written (such as a jar or small box).

PREPARATION:
Choose an area of your venue that is visible and easily accessible. You want party-goers to see this set up and head straight over!

Once you've got the spot, place your table there. Decorate with a box or jar, pens and small pieces of paper/card. You may like to leave printed instructions on the table as well. This will help guests take part in the activity without any explanation needed from the host.

HOW TO PLAY:
Encourage friends and family members to write down fun questions; ones that the bride and groom can ask each other on their first wedding anniversary.

Once the question has been written, it can be placed in the provided box.

At the end of the party, either gift the box of questions as is, or take it home and turn the notes into a special book/keepsake document (which can be presented to the bride and groom on their wedding day
).

EXAMPLE ANNIVERSARY QUESTIONS INCLUDE:
  • What was the exact date of your first date? And where did you go?
  • Describe your perfect date.
  • Fun facts about marriage in general (e.g. what is the traditional 1st year anniversary gift?)
  • What is the story behind your first kiss together?
  • How did [bride or groom] feel in the lead up to proposing?
  • If you could go on a dream holiday right now, where would it be?
  • What was the first movie you watched together?
  • Where did you go for your first getaway as a couple?
  • What is your favourite restaurant for a romantic dinner?
  • What's your favourite take-out for a relaxed night in?
  • What's your favourite memory from your honeymoon?
  • What are your favourite things to do as a couple? Have these changed over the years?
  • What have been your favourite memories as a couple over the last year?
  • What's the most hilarious thing that has happened to you both recently?
  • What is [bride's] guilty pleasure?
  • What is [groom's] greatest strength?
  • What's a cute or funny habit of your partner that you love?
  • What's your favourite memory (or memories) from your wedding day?
  • Who is most likely to plan an anniversary party to celebrate 10 years of marriage?
  • What strange things do you do as a couple?
  • What's your favourite inside joke/couple secret that always makes you smile?
  • If you created a 'bucket list' of experiences to do together, what would be your top 3 items on it?

Alternative Ways to Play:

VIDEO MESSAGES
It's one thing receiving special, hand-written questions from your loved ones. It's another seeing their wonderful faces on camera! Set up an area where guests' can record their questions (and perhaps a cute 'happy anniversary' message) for the couple. After the party, edit the clips together.

This video can then be saved to USB and gifted to the bride and groom on their wedding day (again, with strict instructions to wait ONE year before watching it!). On their anniversary, they can sit back with a bottle of wine, a delish grazing platter, fun questions, beautiful memories, and lovely well wishes from their favourite people!

Handy Tip:
Gift the video in the week leading up to their first wedding anniversary. A personalised surprise that will be truly treasured.

THEME IT
At the top of each piece of paper, write a question 'theme'. For example, you could ask for questions to be 'cheeky', 'sweet', 'fun facts', 'a walk down memory lane', etc. Mix it up as best you can (the more variety, the better!).

With guests writing their questions to the tone of their given 'theme', the couple is bound to wind up with some glorious Q and A time whilst celebrating their 1st anniversary.

SCRAP BOOK FUN
Ask each guest to bring one picture of themselves to the party (or better yet, an image of themselves with the bride and/or groom).

At the event, set out a scrapbook and some glue, rather than pieces of paper. Guests can then stick their image into the book, and write their trivia question next to it. A sweet message could also be scribbled onto the page for added fun (guest book/game all in one!).
