Wine Themed Bachelorette (Quick Overview)

A wine themed party can be many things. The dress code, for example, may be fun (punny t-shirts), colour coordinated, or even formal attire. You may visit wine country, dine at home, enjoy a scenic horseback wine tour, or host a paint and sip event at your venue of choice. No matter where or how you choose to celebrate, the wonderful array of beverages, the delicious selection of food, and a few fun games (such as 'guess the wine' or 'how many corks') is sure to set the tone for what will be one wine-derful event.

Wine Party Themes

From casual to extravagant, this wonderful theme lends itself to many a dress code. See below for our list of faves.

BEING PUNNY
If you've been privvy to some wine puns in the past, you'll know where we're going with this one!

The 'punny' dress code has only one rule. You can wear what you want, but it must include some sort of fun, wine-related slogan. This could be an embroidered shirt you've snatched up on Etsy, a DIY dress (op shop find, with hilarious pun scribbled across the front in permanent marker), or a printed singlet. Let guests' get creative with their style - the results will be wine-derful! ;-)

Handy Hint:
With a few cheeky signs and labels, this 'punny' theme can extend to the drink selection and décor as well.

COLOUR BLOCK
A classy way to bring your group together. Ask that guests' arrive wearing one particular colour (for example, pink) or colours (such as neutral tones). They can wear any item of clothing they like, as long as it fits the chosen palette. If it works for your event, the bride-to-be can then wear all white, making her stand out in the crowd.

Handy Tip:
Ask guests to arrive in the bride's favourite colour for a personalised touch.

The Food

Always important. But even more so at an event that's literally based on alcohol!

Keep those stomachs full with an assortment of goodies that pair well with wine. Cheese, crackers, fruits, cold meats, and gourmet chocolates are perfect for this. They can be served individually, or as a whole (think delicious charcuterie board).

But the options don't stop there.

Traveling Vineyard, for example, suggest serving banana bread with crisp white wine, blueberry muffins with off dry whites, and quiche with any drop. Pizza, potato chips, and even cookies also make the cut; pairing well with a variety of reds and whites. You can view the entire list of recommendations by clicking here.

Handy Tip:
For a unique twist, take a look at wine guide signs (such as those pictured below). These not only help with what foods to serve, but also make for some beautiful/informative décor at your celebration. It's a win/win!

And Then There's The WINE!

Sourcing and serving wine at your event is all part of the experience. Whether you provide the wine, or ask guests to bring a bottle each, the following serving options are bound to be a hit:

  • Around the world: provide an assortment of bottles from different countries - taking tasting to a whole new level
  • Around the region: support local and taste your way through the different wines of your region. You can either do this via a winery tour, or at home by purchasing and serving bottles from local wineries
  • Pot luck: each guest brings their favourite bottle of wine for everyone to taste
  • The bride's favourites: taste your way through the bride-to-be's favourite bottles

Wine Party Activities

COOKING WITH WINE

A wine based cooking class with a professional chef will help you create delicious dishes that include a beautiful splash of your favourite beverage. Not only will you learn how to make a foodie masterpiece, but you will also learn how the unique characteristics of different wines are highlighted through cooking.

After the experience, you can enjoy the meal as a group (glass of wine in hand, of course!).

VISIT WINE COUNTRY
Get away from it all with a holiday in your local wine region. Relax, unwind, explore and taste your way around the area. It will be a weekend of indulgence that the guest of honour will adore!

WINE & DINE AT HOME
Indulge in some at home wine tastings by providing a range of bottles for guests to try. Pair with some games/activities (such as the score cards pictured below), an array of snacks and a delicious meal for the ultimate, relaxing occasion.

Handy Tip:
Ask party-goers to bring their favourite bottle to share.

PRIVATE WINE TOURS
Book in a private wine tour where you not only get to eat, drink and learn, but you'll also enjoy travelling between venues in style. From private limo wine tours to an energetic party bus; when it comes to cruising between locations, there's a vehicle for all.

Handy Tip:
Private tours will take you to a range of venues. So along with wine tastings, you could also sneak in some cheeky spirit and beer tastings as well.

WINE TOUR BY HORSEBACK
Get back to nature with a horseback riding wine tasting tour. Not only unique, fun and memorable, but also an experience that is guaranteed to break the ice (making it perfect for events where there are lots of different friendship groups attending).

CRAFT & SIP
★Click here to view a range of craft kits on Etsy★
With a DIY craft kit, guests will not only create something to keep, but will also gain some pretty awesome new skills! From solar printing and pottery, to macramé; there's no doubt that party-goers will have a wonderful time chatting, making and learning. All while enjoying a glass of wine.

PAINT & SIP
Downing your favourite grape juice can only help with the creative juice - right?! Put it to the test with a paint and sip experience. Fun and colourful, this activity can be held at home or in a dedicated workshop. And the resulting piece of art will be something to treasure!

Handy Tip:
Life drawing will up the cheek factor at your celebration. Giggles guaranteed.

The Invitations

With the perfect itinerary sorted, and the locations/activities booked, you can now turn your attention to the invitations.

This is where you can share information with guests, and more importantly, introduce them to the party theme/tone. A hint at what to expect, if you will.

Whether it be through funny slogans, vintage images, classic text, colours, or the itinerary itself - by pairing the design with your plans, your invites will give everyone a taste of what's to come. And build excitement in the process!

Example:
View the options below. All beautiful in their own way, with their own unique 'vibes'.

The Games

GUESS THE WINE
On a table, set out a variety of whites and reds (labels covered). In front of each bottle, place a small card that briefly describes the taste. Now for the fun! Guests have the chance to guess what each wine is. They can read the provided description, try it, write down their thoughts, and even rate it - but they cannot look at the actual label.

Once your wine connoisseurs have enjoyed a tasting, unveil the bottles. Those with the most correct are your winners. Finish the wine as a group to celebrate!

HOW MANY CORKS?
In the lead up to your event, stash away wine corks. Keep them from bottles you're drinking, ask friends and family to donate theirs, or put a call-out in your local Facebook group (where you'll be inundated with offers by fellow wine drinkers!).

Place your salvaged corks into a jar/jars, keeping count as you go.

Set your jars out on a table, with a little sign (e.g. 'how many corks in the jar?'). Party-goers write their prediction - with the closest guess being your prize winner.

RING TOSS (WITH A TWIST)
In a suitable area (table, ground) set out as many wine bottles as there are guests. Include a fun variety - reds, whites, luxe, the hen's favourite, etc.

Approximately 2 meters away, place a marker (so that party-goers know where to throw from), one small ring (that fits over the neck of the bottles), and a sign with instructions (if you wish).

To play, wine lovers simply stand at the marker and 'toss' the ring, continuously, until it lands on a bottle. This bottle becomes their prize, which they can claim and enjoy straight away!

PHOTO BOOTH
We love a photo booth - especially when there are fun puns to play with! Find your favourite wine inspired slogans, frame them, and leave next to your backdrop. Party goers will have a wicked time posing with these bad boys.

Handy Tip:
As well as signs, you may also like to add some dress ups to the mix. Get creative - offering items such as oversized sunglasses, crazy hats or even colourful vests. Op shops, your cupboard, or friends houses are often home to some wonderful getups. Cheap and oh so fun.

WINE BINGO
Hand out blank bingo cards; encouraging guests to fill empty squares with different types of wine (or wine related items). Examples include Pinot Noir, Rose, Dry, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Red, Fruity, Vineyard and Sparkling.

As the day goes on, guests' can mark off any items they come across. Have 'Red' on your bingo card and just been offered a glass? Mark it off. The first to mark off five items in a row (either diagonal, horizontal or vertical) wins... but only if you yell BINGO first!

WINE BOTTLE RAFFLE
Set up a range of fun activities (such as writing in the guest book, winning a game, snapping a candid photo of the bride-to-be, etc.). Each time a task is completed, that guest is awarded with a raffle ticket. When the time feels right, draw the raffle and award the winner with a bottle of wine.

Note:
This can be an ongoing activity. Purchase a few bottles of wine, and continue to draw winners throughout the night (until you run out of prizes, of course!). The anticipation will add an extra layer of excitement to the celebration.

PASS THE BOTTLE
It's pass the parcel, but with a poetic twist.

Write down some fun directions using rhyming verses (as seen in the example below). Each verse will let players know what to do with the wine bottle (e.g. pass it to the person on their right, pass it to someone wearing pink). The game continues until the last verse is reached - at which point the person holding the bottle gets to keep it.

OTHER GAME IDEAS
Want to have a few more games up your sleeve? Just in case they're needed? The following options are easy to set up and super fun to play!

  • Charades: the usual game, but with wine-related words instead (corkscrew, vineyard, wine cellar). The actions are sure to bring on fits of laughter!
  • Decorate a bottle (or label): provide guests with plain wine bottles or labels and lots of fun craft supplies. They can then get to work creating a work of art. Hand out prizes for most creative, most hilarious, and 'bride's pick'
  • Guess the aroma: set up small bowls filled with wine-related aromas (such as berries or flowers). Blindfold guests and ask them to guess what each scent is.
  • Guess the drawing: split guests into teams and have them take turns drawing wine-related items (such as corks, bottles, grapevines and wine barrels). Teams have to guess the picture being drawn before the timer goes off
  • Pairing challenge: set up a table with a variety of wines and cheeses. After tasting what's on offer, guests can try their hand at working out which items belong together. Have a list of suggested pairings to refer to, and encourage party-goers to create their own 'match made in heaven' as well!
  • Wine bottle relay: the running team game - but with a wine bottle baton
  • Wine cork crafts: challenge guests to get creative with corks. Set up a table with glue, corks and decorations; ready to be turned into fun items such as coasters, placemats or keychains.
  • Wine pong: beer pong, but for wine lovers
  • Wine 'This or That': red or white? Glass or bottle? Cheese or chocolate? Sweet wine or dry wine? Wine with dinner or wine with dessert?
  • Wine trivia: quiz party-goers with pre-written questions
  • Wine word search: be first to find all of the wine-related words to win
