​What to Expect When Hiring a Comedy Hypnotist

A comedy hypnotist is not an option that comes to mind for most people. And many are a bit surprised that it is possible to hire a hypnotist to come to your home and entertain a couple of dozen women with a clean show. Indoors or outdoors.

​HOW DOES IT WORK? 
Generally the hypnotist will arrive early enough to arrange the room a bit (or your outdoor area) and set up a speaker or two for sound.
 
When it is time to begin - everyone gathers around and the hypnotist does an introduction. Hypnotists differ in how they do this, for example I never pick anyone from the crowd (not even the bride-to-be), I simply ask for volunteers. Other hypnotists can be a bit more direct and will select people themselves.
 
Then the hypnotising occurs - right in front of everyone. It is amazing to watch people slowly drift into a trance, right before your eyes.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE SHOW?
Once the hypnosis has occurred and volunteers are nicely under - the gags can begin!
 
There’s a wide variety of hypnotists ranging from the amateur to international, and from the clean to the sleazy; picking one that suits your event is important.
 
Seeing your aunt doing a fantastic air-guitar solo can be a life changing experience, and a memory that will stay with you. The photos on social media will bring back a smile in later years.

​I’m occasionally told that a group wouldn’t mind a more r-rated show, but  no-one needs to see embarrassing video of themselves. I keep it clean using hilarious g-rated skits and gags with the volunteers that you can laugh about for the rest of your lives. A short video of your best mate singing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” in the style of death metal is more than enough.

Introduce a Theme

Want to personalise the party a little more? You can always add a theme to the event; and a good entertainer will base their show on your theme.

I’ve always wanted to do a pyjama party or sleepover themed show - it goes so well with hypnosis, and there are a huge range of easy dress-up options for your guests too.  After 13 years on stage no-one has done this yet. I’m thinking I’d wear flannel pyjamas and a dressing gown . . .

How Much Will it Cost?

Hypnotists vary in cost and sometimes there’ll be numbers and travel involved too. 

For instance, I’ll do shows for 12 or more people, though some hypnotists won’t take a show for under 50 people.
 
In Australia professional hypnotists charge around $2000 but may go as low as $1500 for an off peak event. And some do charge much more.
 
Most will be booked well in advance for Saturday nights, so unless you are having a lunchtime show or a Sunday party it pays to book early.
 
October and November are off peak months, as are the summer months - just when most people are having their weddings - so you will often strike it lucky and get a great entertainer at a better price. 

Make it Memorable

A hens party should be fun and memorable. A chance to blow off some steam and to celebrate. It’s great to do all these things and come away with lovely memories, tears of laughter and some great photos to show your family in later years.
