AUTHOR: BEC OF 'FOR EVERY HEN'
Whether your best friend is a creative soul, you want to do something unique as a group, or you’re simply after a way to celebrate that is different to the ‘typical’ hen’s night style, this blog is for you. Fun and unlike anything you have ever done before, the wonderfully imaginative yet classy hen party ideas below will definitely not disappoint. Enjoy!
ONE: ART CLASS (WITH FOOD & WINE!)
If you would like to try your hand at painting and/or drawing, an art party is the perfect solution! 'Get the ladies together and celebrate your bride-to-be with an experience like no other – painting your own masterpiece with a glass of bubbles in-hand!' says Cork & Canvas. 'BYO drinks and nibbles, with all art materials, aprons, glassware supplied. All you need to do is sit back and have fun while talented professional artists guide you step-by-step in getting your Picasso on!'
Not only a fun way for guests to express themselves, there are also no prerequisites (other than a willingness to give it a go); meaning even those who don’t consider themselves as ‘the arty type’ will be able to relax, have a blast and create something special whilst hanging out with their friends. As Sophia says, 'grab your bridesmaids, your favourite bottle of red, and let’s Van Gogh!'
TWO: BLINDFOLDED MEALS
If your best friend is anything like me, a celebration that includes a selection of gourmet dishes will go down an absolute treat! But how do you incorporate food in a creative fashion? How do you take a normal, everyday experience and make it extraordinary?
Let me give you a hint... blindfolds!
Just one of the unique dining experiences available at Chefin, Blindfolded Dinners do away with etiquette and ‘replace manners with heightened senses’; meaning you will ‘pick up flavours, aromas and textures you’ve never experienced before’! Complete with your own private chef and a customised menu (amongst other things), this is an unforgettably yummy, stress-free and fun dining experience that will leave your foodie hen and all of her friends wanting more!
THREE: COOKING CLASSES
Get creative in the kitchen with your closest pals! From chocolate or cheese making courses through to pasta making, there are so many options when it comes to expanding your cooking knowledge. Watch, learn and get hands on, produce something delicious, and use your new skills at home to re-create the dessert or dish time and time again!
Interested to know what such an experience would entail? At the Mudputty’s ‘Pasta Making & Italian Sauces Cooking Class’, for example, you will not only learn how to make and shape pasta from scratch, but also how to create three delicious Italian pasta sauces and a traditional Italian dessert. You’ll then get to enjoy the feast you created along with some wine #getinmybelly!
With most classes designed for all skill levels and people of all ages, this inclusive activity idea is a great way for your hen to celebrate with parents, grandparents and even younger siblings, friends and/or family.
FOUR: DANCE CLASS
For the hen whose got rhythm (or doesn’t, this will be fun either way!), why not learn ALL the right moves by booking yourselves in for a dance class?!
With so many great styles to choose from (ranging from Twerking and Beyonce through to Burlesque and the Charleston), your best friend and her girls will soon be giggling, shimmying, popping and dropping their way towards mastering (or at least trying to master!) the art that is dance.
But probably the best part of this activity is that the fun doesn’t stop once the class is over. Rather, this is the time when you get to share your new skills with the world! Can you imagine? A flash mob featuring your hen and her excited gals right in the middle of a restaurant or public place? Or nailing the routine in the middle of a club dance floor when that one particular song just happens to play (cue sneaky request from the maid of honour)?
For a fabulous example of what you can expect out of a hen party dancing experience, check out the ‘Diva-licious’ moves in the ‘F is for Dance’ (a dance school specialising in hen's nights) video below!
FIVE: FLOWER CROWN WORKSHOP
If you’re searching for a creative idea that allows everyone (children and adults alike) to take a walk on the arty side of life, then you should definitely consider a flower crown party!
A classy and entertaining experience, creating a flower crown from scratch is not only a fun activity that will leave guests quite impressed with their skills, but also a beautiful way to make memories with your closest friends and/or family. Expect lots of giggles, stories and champagne sippers as everyone puts together their very own stunning creations. Then expect LOTS of photo ops once the making is over as your crowns will be so fabulous they'll NEED to be caught on camera!
SIX: PAINT A MODEL
For a classy and creative experience with a cheeky twist, you can’t go past an art class whose model just happens to be naked! Whilst a little on the naughty side, these classes are also very insightful; teaching you tricks of the trade when it comes to drawing and painting. As such they are known to be enjoyable for young adults and grandparent alike!
And for those who want to take it just that little bit further, there are also experiences where you paint the model himself (such as the one offered at Hens Party Ideas Adelaide - pictured below)! That’s right, rather than putting pen or brush to paper... you'll be putting brush to skin #ohbehave
SEVEN: THE BUCKENS OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE
Are you looking for a unique, creative way to get everyone involved in the pre-wedding shenanigans (the girls AND the boys all together)? 'The Buckens Outdoor Experience’ may be your answer.
A fun activity that combines the puzzles of an escape room, the search of a scavenger hunt and the story-line of a movie; the Buckens is a fun way to get everyone thinking, talking, laughing and working together.
‘Equipped with locked backpacks and an app on your smart phone, teams of up to 8 players (several teams can play at once) will be challenged for about 90mins’, says Stephane of Escape Room Eight. In this time, you will ‘head to various locations around Manly, solving puzzles whilst unlocking and revealing more clues hidden within your bags'.
So what do you think? Have you got what it takes to solve the mystery before it's too late?!

AUTHOR: IAIN OF 'CLASSBENTO'
Is the bride-to-be a creative soul? Perhaps an introvert who prefers a calmer activity with a smaller group? Or someone who just loves to be a bit different?
A creative workshop could be the perfect option for her hens party, bridal shower or kitchen tea!
It’s easy to organise, and will be an unforgettable experience.
WHAT ARE CREATIVE WORKSHOPS?
Creative workshops are all about the fun and relaxation that comes with learning an art and creating something beautiful. You’ll be guided by passionate experts, who will provide you with all the knowledge and ingredients you’ll need to learn a new crafty skill. Unleash your imagination while having a great time with your friends.
JUST SOME OF THE WORKSHOPS YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM
Try Ikebana flower arranging - learn about the history and techniques behind this Japanese art while you apply it hands-on to create your very own graceful arrangement. Or create bouquets or flower crowns at one of Sydney’s pristine beaches, under the guidance of an expert florist.
If you’re a group of foodies, try making your own macaroons or chocolate. And if you’re more into the eating than the cooking, you can draw your dessert and eat it too, in a fun watercolour painting session!
Alternatively, you may want to discover how tea and chocolate can be paired, and if you’re adventurous, perhaps even tea and cheese (the pairings generate subtle third flavours that you’ll pleasantly discover).
A GIFT THAT LASTS
If you’d like to take away something lasting to remember the occasion by, invite your group to a candle making class where you can choose your own scents and colours.
You could even try a terrarium making class and design your own petite garden landscapes. It’s like the adult version of a dollhouse – you decide what goes in! Terrariums are super easy to maintain, and will beautify your and the bride’s home or office for many years to come.
Prefer something to wear? Why not embark on a jewellery making crafternoon, where you’ll get to make unique artisan necklaces, earrings and more.
Once she’s married, it may be harder to get her by herself; so this may be one of your last opportunities to do something really girly. Try painting pretty, petite pebbles, and even string them up to create your own original jewellery.
A FUN & STRESS-FREE PARTY EXPERIENCE
All the classes at Classbento are geared towards fun and relaxation, and are absolutely perfect for beginners. Everything is provided and you’ll get to keep what you make. So all you need to do is pick your favourite workshop (can be hard, we know!), book, show up and enjoy!

AUTHOR: JANE FONDLE OF 'HOOPS, THIGHS & BUTTOCKS'
The ceremony was just perfect, you’re at the wedding reception and the bride and groom are swanning across the dance floor (somewhat clumsily) for their wedding dance. The room is wet with tears of joy as the song ends.
Suddenly out of nowhere the dance floor is mobbed by 15 excited gals, shuffle-step-step-leaping their way to the centre. The whole group (with bride up front) burst into a dance to Whitney’s ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’.
“Where did they come from?”
“What’s going on?”
“This is the best thing I’ve ever seen!”
If you ask me, there’s nothing more pleasing to the eye than a group of people performing synchronised choreography. Add to that high levels of excitement and enthusiasm (and let’s ice that cake with the surprise factor) and you’ve got yourself something more memorable than Miley Cyrus twerking at the Video Music Awards.
Never been part of a flashmob?
It’s exciting and exhilarating, not to mention incredibly entertaining for those who get to witness it. You can also hide down the back if you’ve got 2 left feet, everyone’s looking at the bride anyway (or at that bridesmaid who had a few extra drinks and is lip synching her heart out like she’s Britney Spears. Oh, that’s you!).
But, how do you make this magic happen?!
CHOOSE A HENS NIGHT DANCE CLASS STYLE
Know your hen and know your party group. Is she an 80’s girl or more of a Spice Girl? Maybe she used to kick it 90’s RnB, or she’s a true Belieber.
Pick the music genre that resonates with the hen and that you think will be hilarious or a hit for the whole group.
LEARN A DANCE
Learn a dance routine to a song that you remember knowing all the words to as a young teen. Bring back those memories of pretending you were in the film clip, dancing in front of the mirror in your bedroom while singing into your hairbrush.
Step by step you’ll learn a dance to your chosen song, and then film it so you can practice, practice, practice before the big day!
BUST IT OUT AT THE WEDDING RECEPTION
Move over Spice Girls, this girl gang is going to take the crowd by storm!
You’re sure to receive a VMA for this performance. For extra effect, wear your incredible bedazzled leotard under your wedding-appropriate dress for the BIG reveal!
MAKE MAGIC HAPPEN
How can you make this magic happen? Get in touch with Hoops, Thighs & Buttocks! You can choose a party in a range of themes, from 80’s Dance to 90’s Hip-Hop, 90’s Pop and even Hula Hooping. You can even get them to choreograph a song of your choice.
Your party can include champagne, a special gift for the hen (such as a hi-cut 80’s g-string leotard) and tonnes of fun! Grab your hamburger phone and give the gals at HT&B a call, they got this!

AUTHOR: GERARD OF 'COMEDY HYPNOTIST GERARD V'
If you’re planning a hen party but don’t just want a drunken night out and a male stripper, what else can you do?
The increasing popularity of alternative hens party ideas shows that people are looking for a better story to tell than how drunk everyone got or how hot the male stripper was. Social media has changed everything. Those photos your friends take are going to be on instagram for a long time.
I am more and more often being invited to entertain at hens parties looking for a cleaner, family friendly alternative.
I’m a comedy hypnotist.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN HIRING A COMEDY HYPNOTIST
A comedy hypnotist is not an option that comes to mind for most people. And many are a bit surprised that it is possible to hire a hypnotist to come to your home and entertain a couple of dozen women with a clean show. Indoors or outdoors.
Here’s how it works.
Generally the hypnotist will arrive early enough to arrange the room a bit (or your outdoor area) and set up a speaker or two for sound.
When it is time to begin - everyone gathers around and the hypnotist does an introduction. Hypnotists differ in how they do this, for example I never pick anyone from the crowd (not even the bride-to-be), I simply ask for volunteers. Other hypnotists can be a bit more direct and will select people themselves.
Then the hypnotising occurs - right in front of everyone. It is amazing to watch people slowly drift into a trance, right before your eyes.
Once the hypnosis has occurred and volunteers are nicely under - the gags can begin!
There’s a wide variety of hypnotists ranging from the amateur to international, and from the clean to the sleazy; picking one that suits your event is important.
Seeing your aunt doing a fantastic air-guitar solo can be a life changing experience, and a memory that will stay with you. The photos on social media will bring back a smile in later years.
I’m occasionally told that a group wouldn’t mind a more r-rated show but no-one needs to see embarrassing video of themselves ten years later. I keep it clean using hilarious g-rated skits and gags with the volunteers that you can laugh about for the rest of your lives.
A short video of your best mate singing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” in the style of death metal is more than enough.
INTRODUCE A THEME
Whichever way you go (sleazy or clean) you can always add a theme to the event; and a good entertainer will base their show on your theme.
Personally I’ve always wanted to do a pyjama party or sleepover themed show - it goes so well with hypnosis, and there are a huge range of easy dress-up options for your guests too. After 13 years on stage no-one has done this yet. I’m thinking I’d wear flannel pyjamas and a dressing gown . . .
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Hypnotists vary in cost and sometimes there’ll be numbers and travel involved too.
For instance, I’ll do shows for 12 or more people, though some hypnotists won’t take a show for under 50 people.
In Australia professional hypnotists charge around $2000 but may go as low as $1500 for an off peak event. And some do charge much more.
Most will be booked well in advance for Saturday nights, so unless you are having a lunchtime show or a Sunday party it pays to book early.
October and November are off peak months, as are the summer months - just when most people are having their weddings - so you will often strike it lucky and get a great entertainer at a better price.
MAKE IT MEMORABLE
A hens party should be fun and memorable. A chance to blow off some steam and to celebrate. It’s great to do all these things and come away with lovely memories, tears of laughter and some great photos to show your family in later years.
A comedy hypnotist is a great alternative hens party idea for you to think about.
And if you want to be the first person to book me for the pyjama party idea give me a call.
